Smoked Carnitas



Savor the deep, smokey flavor of classic carnitas with a distinctive twistperfectly smoked. This recipe is a delectable culinary journey that combines traditional Mexican spices with the rich, savory flavor of smoking.

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs pork shoulder, cubed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Combine pork, onion, garlic, orange juice, lime juice, cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl

Mix well to ensure even coating

Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for better flavor

Preheat your smoker to 225F 107C

Place the marinated pork on the smoker grates, making sure to leave space between the pieces for the smoke to circulate

Smoke for approximately 3-4 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 195F 90C, turning the meat occasionally for even smoking

Remove the smoked carnitas from the smoker and let them rest for a few minutes

Shred the smoked carnitas using forks or claws, discarding any excess fat

Serve the smoked carnitas in tacos, burritos, or on a platter with your favorite sides
